On 30 January 2024, A Architecture in Belgium and Bozar will welcome Dorte Mandrup and Klaas Goris to the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels for a thematic lecture. The two architects will discuss several notable projects from their architectural practice.
Dorte Mandrup, a Danish architect, founded her firm in 1999. Her designs are mainly cultural and educational in nature. The Scandinavian firm designs architecture with a sense of responsibility for people and nature. With an artistic approach, they create exceptional constructions that form the basis of their acclaimed oeuvre. Among other things, Dorte Mandrup will present the project ‘The Whale’, the whale observation centre in Andenes, Norway. This exceptional structure integrates the light of the far north and offers a unique experience.
Klaas Goris, a Belgian architect, is co-founder of the Ghent-based firm Coussée Goris Huyghe architects. Their work focuses on centuries-old building traditions. The authentic architecture they present demonstrates an eye for detail. The authentic, artistic and poetic architecture they design demonstrates an eye for detail. An example of this is the Hofheide Crematorium, built in Holsbeek, Belgium. This memorial site is distinguished by its extremely precise light control, creating spaces that exude serenity and reflection.
After the presentations, both agencies will discuss How light shapes space.
