Architecture in Belgium, in collaboration with Bozar, is pleased to invite Junya Ishigami to give a lecture in Brussels on 22 April 2024.
The distinguished Japanese architect Junya Ishigami founded his own practice in 2004, after working at Kazuyo Seijima&Associates. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010, Ishigami stands out for his innovative approach, harmonising architecture, engineering and nature.
Renowned for his formal language, Ishigami explores lightness and transparency, which are essential to his dreamlike creations. His buildings, appealing for their new spatiality, maintain a special relationship with their environment and thus push the boundaries of what is possible. Since his first commission for the Kanagawa Institute of Technology, Ishigami has completed numerous buildings in Asia, Europe and the United States. His latest project is the Zaishui Art Museum in China, whose columns seem to emerge from the lake on which it stands. This kilometre-long linear museum offers an immersive experience in the surrounding nature.
This lecture will be a unique insight into the poetic and innovative world of Junya Ishigami.
