The Euregional Architecture Prize (EAP) is an annual competition for final-year projects from five architecture faculties in Hasselt, Liège, Maastricht and Aachen. On 19 December 2021, the prize was awarded for the 31st time.

First prize (worth €2,500) went to Chiara Erhardt and Luca Steinert from RWTH Aachen. Their project ‘ritrova.riesi’ focuses on the small town of Riesi in Sicily, one of the places in Italy struggling with emigration and dereliction. Erhardt and Steiner’s graduation project explored how architecture can contribute to finding solutions to this specific problem. The jury commended the proposal for its focus on local authenticity. ‘By giving existing, abandoned buildings a new cultural purpose, the town centre and public life are strengthened. The theme of reuse and redevelopment is a topical issue that is highly relevant and meaningful in the context of Riesi,’ said the jury.
