At the end of 2021, the architectural firm Gafpa completed an extension to the Lange Munte sports campus in Kortrijk, adding a low, elongated building housing thirteen changing rooms for footballers. Gafpa attached the new building to the existing sports hall, designed by bOb Van Reeth, in response to the master’s creation.
The history of the construction of the Kortrijk sports complex is a long one, with the first part dating back to 1975. In 2003, this first building was considerably enlarged by Awg, the firm of bOb Van Reeth, with the addition of a large hall capable of hosting high-level sporting events. The installation of new artificial turf pitches a few years ago further increased the capacity of the campus, both for high-level sport and recreational sport. However, the changing rooms were no longer up to the standard expected of a high-level sports complex. Outdoor sports enthusiasts often had to stay out in the cold. That is why, in 2017, the municipal administration decided to build ten additional changing rooms, each for twenty people, as well as a large changing room and two smaller ones for referees, and storage rooms for sports equipment and maintenance machinery.
