The CIVA Foundation is opening a new chapter in its history and will now continue its activities under the name Kanal Architecture, Kanal’s museum of architecture, landscape and urban ecosystems. This name change, made possible by its move to the iconic Kanal site, marks a major evolution: an expansion in scale, visibility and ambition.
By anchoring itself within Kanal, the institution is strengthening its impact and reaching wider audiences in Brussels, Belgium and internationally. This new anchorage offers exceptional conditions for developing its mission within an international cultural project at the crossroads of disciplines.
Since 2016, the CIVA Foundation has established itself as a scientific and cultural reference, known for its exhibitions, collections and research. Under the name Kanal Architecture, the museum clearly affirms its field of action: architecture, landscape and urban ecosystems, approached in a transdisciplinary manner and in direct connection with contemporary transformations. This new context reinforces the museum’s ability to circulate knowledge, stimulate debate and place architecture at the heart of societal issues, particularly climatic, environmental, social and cultural ones. Kanal Architecture thus positions itself as a place of reflection and dialogue open to all.
The first exhibition
Visit Kanal Architecture when it opens on 28 November 2026 for the exhibition Right to the city – Right to the future. Dedicated to overturning the clichés that weigh heavily on “Brussels”, which has become a symbol of dysfunction, bureaucratisation and fragmentation, the exhibition offers a critical and nuanced reading of the city.
It pays tribute to the capital, viewing it instead as a pioneering laboratory for contemporary spatial experimentation, a place where new forms of cohabitation, design and thought are born.
