Robbrecht en Daem and VK have designed a hospital at the head of Park Spoor Noord. Although the hospital will not be put into use until September, the empty spaces are already showing their potential. Generous public spaces draw the city into the building and blur the boundary between patient and passer-by.
The new hospital was given a boost at the end of last year when the Architecture Book was presented in the entrance hall. The 150-metre-long hall of the then still empty building was transformed into a small auditorium with a banquet hall, with a seemingly endless vista behind the stage. The temporary use showed the possibilities that the new spaces have to offer, even though they had little to do with a hospital.
