Teachers at the LOCI Faculty of Architecture, Anne Sophie Nottebaert, Cécile Vandernoot and Béatrice Lampariello encouraged their Master’s students to take part in a workshop entitled ‘Cotisser l’espace’ (Weaving Space). This research-creation project was supported by Barbara Massart, an artist specialising in textile creation, and Nicolas Clément, a photographer and videographer.

The students were encouraged to reflect on the relationship between the body, fabric and the built environment during exchanges organised at “La Filière”, the studio of textile artist Alice Pilastre, and at La “S” Grand Atelier, a centre for raw and contemporary art. They created spaces using recycled woven and/or assembled pieces of fabric. These spaces were presented through scripted films screened at the project exhibition held at the Faculty of Architecture in Louvain-la-Neuve at the end of last year. The two student projects described here present fabric assemblages that encourage gathering.
