What we stand for

A+ shapes and nurtures the discourse on contemporary Belgian architecture, urbanism and landscape, reflecting on the ever-changing role and responsibilities of architects. In a world in which the consequences of climate change and systemic social inequalities are increasingly apparent, designers act as pivotal figures. Their imagination is crucial in the implementation of processes of change with spatial repercussions. A+ pursues this mission through the publication of a bimonthly magazine and an online platform, as well as by organising talks, exhibitions, and various other events.

What we do

Magazine

A+ has been the leading Belgian magazine on architecture and urban planning since 1973, approaching the subject with a critical perspective and intellectual independence. The magazine is an important tool for designers, planners and public or private commissioners who want to contribute to a high quality interpretation of our built environment. A+ is published five times a year in French and Dutch – with two issues also featuring an English supplement. Each issue includes reviews of recent projects and essays, interviews and reflections on a specific theme, occasionally co-edited by a guest expert.

Online Platform

For over fifty years, A+ has documented and shared the richness of Belgian architectural culture. Through hundreds of issues and thousands of articles, the magazine has traced the evolution of architecture in Belgium and beyond. The complete A+ archive is accessible on this website, alongside articles from current issues. In addition, exclusive online content is published regularly — including extra reviews, opinion pieces, book and exhibition recommendations, and news from the Belgian architecture scene.

Events

Ouest, Urban Legend. Exhibition view by Corentin Haubrugge.

Every year, A+ organises a monographic exhibition and a series of talks, both in collaboration with Bozar. Internationally renowned architects are invited to participate in the talks, while the exhibition is dedicated to the work, methodology, and philosophy of a Belgian architectural practice that has made a breakthrough in recent years. The exhibitions also travel abroad, showcasing Belgian architecture to an international audience. In addition, A+ also hosts magazine launches and networking events, bringing together professionals from across the architectural community.

Next Generation

Across 2025 © Acme

A+ is committed to nurturing the next generation of Belgian architects, highlighting and supporting emerging talent through both the magazine and programming. One of the key initiatives is Across in Residence, a collaboration with the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi) and the Institut Culturel d’Architecture Wallonie-Bruxelles (ICA). Across is a residency programme for eight young Belgian architectural practices from both sides of the language border. The programme includes a collaborative creation process led by two experienced architects, three public lectures, and a group exhibition marking the end of the cycle.

Awards

Brussels Architecture Prize 2025 © Caroline Lessire

Every two years, A+ organises with urban.brussels, the Brussels Architecture Prize, which rewards innovative realisations by Belgian or foreign architects in Brussels, and by Brussels offices in Flanders, Wallonia or abroad.
