In 2023, A+ will celebrate its 50th anniversary! To mark this occasion, each issue will offer a unique glimpse into our rich magazine archive, featuring a reprint of several old articles that tie in with the theme of the current issue. This time, we look back at A+ 6 (1974), A+ 17 (1975), A+ 32 (1976), A+ 54 (1978-1979), A+ 60 (1979), A+ 65 (1980), A+ 78 (1982) and A+ 261 (2016).
Inclusion is a much-discussed theme in society. Debates regularly arise about the political nature of inclusion and the erosion of the concept is raised. In the architecture sector, an inclusive approach implies, among other things, attention to diversity and intersectionality, a different approach to complex social programmes and the involvement of various actors in the design and construction process. But it also confronts the sector with the inclusivity of the profession, the role of the architect, and openness towards society. A+ look back at the archives shows that A+ emphatically placed these themes on the agenda in its first decade (1973-1982), often as a political statement.
