Lecture by Carme Pigem
This year RCR won the Pritzker Architecture Prize!
The spanish firm RCR Arquitectes has patiently developed a close relationship with materials and craftsmen since its formation in 1988. Most of the firm’s projects have been in Orto, the small city where it has its offices. Its Soulage Museum in Rodez got a lot of attention in the international press a few years ago. In Belgium, after a first collaboration with the firm Coussée & Goris architecten (Ghent) for the Hofheide Crematorium in 2013, they repeat the experience with a project in the historic city centre of Ghent: Waalse Krook. Other major projects include Sant Antoni-Joan Oliver Library in Barcelona and the Bell-lloc Wine Centre in Palamos (2007). International recognition has come in the form of the Catalonia National Architecture Prize (2005), the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République française (2008) and a monograph on the firm by El Croquis, to name a few.
